Studio Gobo at GDC 2025

This year, Studio Gobo had the privilege of presenting seven talks at GDC 2025, each offering a glimpse into the creative and technical expertise at Studio Gobo.

 

 

 

 

 

Here's a brief overview of the sessions we delivered:

 

  • Building Rawwsome Combat Gameplay with Robot Dinosaurs
    Speaker: David Wilson
    David explored the adaptation of AI systems for stylized quadruped movement, ensuring engaging combat pacing across multiple difficulty modes in LEGO Horizon Adventures.

 

  • Procedural Optimizing
    Speaker: Simon Verstraete
    Simon discussed building procedural pipelines to optimize the game for multiple platforms, highlighting challenges and solutions in the development process.

 

  • Bringing the World to Life, Brick by Brick!
    Speakers: James Charlick & Rich Court
    James and Rich shared insights into creating a world entirely out of LEGO bricks, covering terrain, buildings, foliage, and even VFX, pushing the boundaries of what's been seen in LEGO titles.

 

  • An Approach to Cinematics
    Speaker: Andrea Zanelli
    Andrea delved into the techniques used to craft cinematic experiences within the game, focusing on the integration of animation and storytelling.

 

  • Procedural Generation with Design in Mind
    Speaker: Michael Boyle
    Michael examined how procedural generation was blended with handcrafted design to create dynamic, replayable experiences in the game.

 

  • Building Big Impact, One Brick at a Time: Marginal Gains in 'LEGO Horizon Adventures'
    Speaker: Adam Russell
    Adam discussed implementing marginal gains into the development process, empowering team members to identify and action micro-improvements that collectively enhance the game's quality.

 

  • Stick to It: Creating a UI Identity for 'LEGO Horizon Adventures'
    Speaker: Chris Francis
    Chris highlighted the creation of a unique UI identity for the game, detailing the design choices that contributed to an intuitive and engaging player experience.

Participating in GDC 2025 was an unforgettable experience. We're immensely proud of our team's contributions and grateful for the opportunity to share our journey with the broader game development community.
